In the aftermath of Oluchi Anekwe‘s death (the 3rd year UNILAG student who was struck by a high voltage cable on campus), the federal government has announced that it would sanction any distribution company (DISCO) that engages in installation of substandard electricity equipment in its operations.
Peter Ewesor, who is the Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), confirmed the development to newsmen, stating:

“Appropriate enforcement orders and possible sanctions will be meted out for non-compliance with the recommendations of all previous and future monitoring reports sent to them by NEMSA field electrical inspectors.”

Ewesor was head of the investigative panel that investigated Anekwe’s death.
