A boy, just 9, has been fatally shot by a Chicago gang in a feud
that has seen at least two others killed. Tyshawn Lee was walking from school
to his grandmother's house at around 4.15pm on Monday when somebody opened
fire, fatally hitting him in the head and back.
Police superintendent Garry McCarthy said the boy was
targeted because father Pierre Stokes, 25, has connections to gang violence in
the city.
“At this point, we believe that Tyshawn was targeted, lured
to this spot and murdered. We believe that this is the most recent in a series
of gang-related, violent events,” McCarthy said.
The murder has however made residents of the community angry
with a Reverend, Michael Pfleger, a priest in Chicago and outspoken advocate
against gun violence, offering to pay to relocate any witnesses who feel they
would be in danger for providing information.
