The Delta State Government has reiterated its readiness to host the
annual Best of Nollywood (BON) awards in the state on November 8, 2013
in Asaba, the state capital. This was stated last week Monday in Lagos
at the unveiling of the awards to newsmen.
At an event held at
Yellow Chilli, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, the Delta State Commissioner for
Culture and Tourism, Richard Mofe Damijo, well known as RMD, who was
represented by a Director in the ministry, Ferguson Atakere, spoke on
the readiness of the oil rich state to spoil guests to a five star
treatment when they visit Asaba in November.
According to
Atakere, the urge to project Delta State as not only dependent on oil
alone necessitated the administration of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to
accept to host the Nollywood glamorous event.
He said, “it is
important we develop Nollywood, especially with the way the filmmakers
have gradually turned our state to the Hollywood of Nigeria. He added
that, “It is on record that an average of 300 films is shot yearly in
Asaba because we have given the producers the right environment and also
because our state is safe from armed robbery and kidnapping and our
people are extremely friendly.”
Also speaking at the event,
the Executive Producer BON awards, Seun Oloketuyi, said, “so far, the
journey has been tough for Best of Nollywood, but we have stayed focused
because we believe that Nollywood, as big as it is, should have a
befitting reward system which will yearly and properly celebrate the
achievement and hard work of these movie stars.
“Our vision and
dreams are huge, but we believe that we shall get to a stage where the
Best of Nollywood Awards will be a global event with the help of
cooperate Nigeria.”
Also present at the unveiling was the
President of Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima, who
threw her weight behind the awards and the host. Mercy Aigbe, Moyo
Lawal, Capital FEMI, Yomi Fabiyi were some of the stars present at the
event.
BON Awards will take place at the Dome, Asaba. The
occasion will also try to break the longest red carpet in the world as
it hopes to have a six-kilometer carpet.
