Abuja court sentences two students to 2 months in jail for hawking black market petrol

 


















Eze Onyedikachi, 24, and Omowunmi Job, 23, have been sentenced to two months imprisonment, each, by an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for hawking fuel along Abuja-Kubwa expressway, after being convicted for perpetuating nuisance, offence that contradicts section 199 of the Penal Code.


According to DailyTrust, the prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, they were arrested on April 4, with 55 litres of fuel in their possession. He said they hawked fuel in front of NIPCO filling station, having known that the practice has been prohibited within the FCT.

He added that such act constitutes an embarrassment to the FG and a danger on the public highway. When the charge was read to the accused, they pleaded guilty and were sentenced to two months imprisonment each with an option of N2,000 fine each…. and as expected, they chose to go to jail cuz of d free food….
